On Saturday, 23rd November 2013 at Accra Aviation Social Centre, Yoruba Day, one of the grand annual events witnessed by Yorubas from Ghana’s 10 regions held. It is a day chosen to project the culture, tradition, values and unity among Yorubas in Ghana. The event, which has been celebrated annually for over 27 years in Ghana was stopped 13 years ago according to the President of Yoruba Community, Ghana, Alhaji Musa Baba, who said it was resurrected this year with the launching of a book titled “Exploits of A Migrant Community: Chronicles of Yorubas in Ghana.” Entertaining the guests were Yoruba local drummers, and praise singers, in Aso Ebi branded – ‘200 years of Yorubas in Ghana,’ with the Leader of the Yoruba Community, Ghana, Chief (Barrister) Peregrino Braimah, and several Yoruba chiefs across Ghana in attendance.
The event had APC political figures from the South West Nigeria in attendance, headed by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, who were both represented by Cardinal Odunmbaku, James Omolaja, and Senator Abiola Ajimobi, who was represented by Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo, Oyo State deputy governor. Also in attendance were former Nigeria High Commissioner to Ghana, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, represented by Hon Babajide Obanikoro; the current Nigerian Ambassador to Ghana, Ambassador Ademola Oluseyi Onafowokan, who was also represented by his deputy, Mr Muhammed A. Kurmawa, Alhaji Adebayo Salami and Alagba Adebayo Faleti.
The book that was launched, Exploit of a Migrant Community: Chronicles of Yorubas in Ghana, written by Joshua Bola Olalere, a businessman, has 5 chapters: History, Culture and Basic Facts About Yoruba Tribe; Yoruba: The Migrant Community, Destination Ghana, The Exploits and Challenges and Our Home
