Nollywood actress Anita Okonkwo: Rita Dominic, RMD, Liz Benson inspired me into acting.
Anita Okonkwo is a Nigerian actress from Imo State.
She tells Vnolly: “I joined Nollywood a few years ago.”
She says: “When I was 20 years old, then I was staying in the north, I used to admire Rita Dominic, RMD, Liz Benson.”
She says: “They were my role models then.”
“And because of them I picked interest in acting.”
“And since I have what it takes to be an actress, I decided to come over to Lagos to join the AGN. That was how I started acting.”
Please tell us about yourself.
My name is Anita Okonkwo, an actress from Imo State. I joined Nollywood a few years ago. I’m an under graduate of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) Ogun State. I studying export and shipping management.
How was growing up like?
My growing up was smooth. I enjoyed my growing up, but at a time, it became a bit rough, but I thank God for what I am today and how far He has brought me in life.
How did you get into acting?
When I was 20 years old, then I was staying in the north, I used to admire Rita Dominic, RMD, Liz Benson. They were my role models then. And because of them I picked interest in acting. And since I have what it takes to be an actress, I decided to come over to Lagos to join the AGN. And that was how I started acting. I give God the glory because I’m not disappointed.
Tell us some of the movies you’ve acted in.
Who owns the city which was shot in Accra Ghana. I did it with Ifeanyi Onyeabor. I also did Royal messenger (which was my first movie) and with Aki and Pawpaw. I did Ladies tears, The wounded gods and so many I can’t remember their names right now.
Which of them is most challenging?
I would say Who owns the city was most challenging because we had to do a lot of stunts, flying in an helicopter, holding real guns. Before then I used to be afraid of height, but at the end of the day I saw myself flying in an helicopter.
Which 5 stars would you love to work with in future?
Well I would love to work with Genevieve Nnaji because I love her so much. I’ll also love to work with Joke Silva, Van Vicker, Nadia Buhari, and Mercy Johnson.
Are you married?
No I’m not.
What should we be expecting from you in 5 years?
Wow! In the next five years, I should be married and have my own kids. And secondly, I should have built my career and gone beyond Nollywood to Hollywood.
