DANCING TO STARDOM
Prior to the Nokia Danceathon, a dance competition that was held in 2006, Kafayat Shafau was just your girl next door, but after emerging winner of the dance competition, she not only had her name etched in the Guinness Book of World Records for dancing for an amazing 53hrs, 30mins nonstop, the name Kaffy, as she is popularly called rings a loud bell these days as she has become a dance queen.
Born in Lagos, Kaffy was educated in the UK and Nigeria. Right from Secondary School, Dance found her and she never looked back. While at the university she choreographed a show and before long Ruggedman, Faze among other artists wanted her to choreograph their music videos.
What started as a pastime for Kaffy has turned into a career and mission, with expertise and exposure, she is bent on making people appreciate Dance and Dancers and that informed her decision to start the Dance Academy where she teaches the nitty gritty of Dance.
According to the Ogun State University graduate, being able to dance is not enough as dance has got to a stage where those who intend to make a career out of have to study it with real dedication just like any other course in the higher institutions.
The Dance queen has her hands full, apart from running a Dance Academy; she presently has over 200 clients amongst whom are bankers and other top executives. These are people who used dance as a form of physical exercise and relaxation.
Kaffy can be termed as an authority in dance as she now features as judge at different dance competitions; the Malta Guinness Street Dance was just one of many.
The untiring dancer is sure aiming for the sky as City People Entertainment presents Kaffy and the Dance Heroes in Concert, on Thursday 17, July which is a preview of Kaffy and her Dance group, the Zebra, before they embark on their journey to Pineapple Studio in the UK.
The journey upward is sure full of vicissitudes but only the winners and not the quitters get there, so go touch the sky. We are proud of you!
